    Cool

Im looking at getting a cheap simple tripod for my super 8 camera, but i want to know if all tripods have mostly the same size screw fittings or not, is there a lot of variation or is it likley to be the right size?

most of the lower priced tripods you use for super-8 will have a 3/16 size mounting screw..some camera's have 2 sizes tripod sockets...3/16 and 3/8(NIZO comes to mind)..BOGEN makes a nice sturdy tripod combo's with a fluid head..check E-bay..they have a good selection..at a good price.

Be careful of the word cheap. What if one leg locks, but every now and then just unlocks a teeny tiny bit...and just when you've walked away to yell at an actor for blowing a line....your camera falls over!

"Serves you right, the actor says"...and the next thing you remember, your in jail doing time!

All because you bought a cheap tripod.

One test you can do is lock off the tripod, and slowly put your body weight on the locked off tripod legs to see if it "gives".

And you need to try this not just with the tripod in the low position, but also in the medium and high position.

(Please don't try this test by cliffs or ravines or high buildings).

Next, do you really know that you don't care how smoothly the camera pans and tilts?

Suddenly, the value of a $500.00 tripod comes into play as it will most definitely have a smoother pan than a $ 50.00 tripod.

But check this out....a Sachtler Tripod costs over $2,500 to as much as $5,000.!

And when you use one, you'll know why, and want one.

    (so don't try one)
